Spotlight – Dr Geetanjali Ratnalikar – Staff and Associate Specialist (SAS) Tutor, Swansea Bay Health Board

SAS are a diverse group of doctors coming from different backgrounds and working across various specialities with a wide range of skill sets. Many of them are in leading roles and work independently at senior level.

They are committed to continuing medical professional development to serve their patients better as well as to keep their knowledge and skills updated.

This month, meet Geetanjali, our SAS tutor at Swansea Bay University Health Board. As a SAS Tutor, her role is to facilitate training and career progression of SAS doctors within her Health Board.

She has been in the post for two years although Geetanjali has lived and worked in Swansea for many years. She has been working as a Specialty Doctor in Dermatology for over 14 years and is currently based at Singleton Hospital, Swansea. Prior to that, she trained and worked as a GP locally. Over the years, she has represented SAS Dermatologists at the British Association of Dermatologist and the Welsh Dermatology Forum.

As a SAS Tutor, Geetanjali has organised various CPD courses on topics such as remote consultation, good record keeping, considering mental capacity and seeking valid consent, treating children and young people etc. Additionally, she arranged 2 full days external CPD funded by HEIW on “Scientific Research and Methodology” and “Well-being, Self-compassion and self-care”.

She is aiming to form a steering group working together with the medical director, Swansea University training faculty, SAS Advocate and Medical HR for an integrated approach towards implementation of the SAS Charter.

Her other interests include travelling, flower arranging and reading.

Geetanjali would like to hear from you if you have any SAS training related queries or ideas and can be reached via email: Geetanjali.Ratnalikar@wales.nhs.uk
