HEIW's 2025 summer intern cohort

During summer 2025, HEIW took on 7 students for an eight-week internship. They have each spent time in a specific department within HEIW to gain an insight into what it’s like to work for the NHS in Wales.

This programme is extremely beneficial to talented undergraduates still in education or just completing their undergraduate programme by providing a bridge to a valuable employment experience. Opportunities to work within dynamic teams and being able to positively contribute to key projects across HEIW is a key attraction of this programme, coupled with the opportunity of a mentor to support the interns to apply their acquired knowledge and skills within a business environment.

The rewards to HEIW are also significant and include the attraction of talent, promotion of the organisation and NHS Wales as an employer of choice, and the benefit of up-to-date research, new models and fresh perspectives gained through the lens of our younger generation.

Amy Whitehead, Programme Support Manager leads the internship programme at HEIW and said, "we are delighted to provide this opportunity for our interns to gain insight into the rewarding and diverse career paths available within NHS Wales."

As a strategic workforce body, we are passionate about providing opportunities for work experience and career advice to the future workforce. We hope that their time spent at HEIW will encourage our interns to pursue a role within NHS Wales.
