Healthcare Science Service Transformation Fellowship

Driving Innovation in NHS Wales Healthcare Science

Funded by the Healthcare Science Programme, the Healthcare Science Service Transformation Fellowship offers up to £3,500 to support professionals from any discipline within Healthcare Science in Wales. 

This unique opportunity enables fellows to visit departments or centres of excellence outside Wales to gain new skills, insights, and exemplary practices, bringing transformative ideas back to improve services locally.

Who can apply?

Any NHS Wales employee working within a Healthcare Science profession is eligible to apply. 

We especially welcome those who have: 

  • Led or supported major projects or national initiatives. 

  • Contributed to NHS Wales improvement work, including Bevan Commission projects. 

  • Driven service transformation or quality improvement in their area. 

Please note: You are not eligible to apply if you are a previous recipient of the fellowship.

Funding details

The fellowship provides funding to support visits to centres of excellence so you can gain new skills and build partnerships. 

What’s covered? 

  • Travel, accommodation, and visa costs for your visit. 

  • Visits can last from 2 days up to 3 weeks, depending on your project. 

  • You can apply for one visit or multiple visits, if justified and included in your initial application. 

Important to know: 

  • You are responsible for arranging your visit – we cannot suggest hosts. 

  • Funding must be used within the current financial year and cannot be carried over. 

  • Your project plan must include a clear timeline approved by your line manager and the fellowship committee. 

Funding will NOT cover: 

  • Food and drink 

  • Conference or lecture attendance 

  • Visits already completed or underway 

  • Salary backfill
