Alun worked in NHS Wales for 35 years before retiring in 2019.  He is a qualified accountant who, during his career, was a Director of Finance in a number of NHS Wales organisations; including health authority, local health boards and NHS Trusts. For the last few years of his career Alun was seconded to Welsh Government as Programme Director on NHS Finance Regime.

Other than a period in early 2000s, working in the former Swansea LHB, Alun’s career was based in and around Cardiff.

Prior to starting in HEIW Alun has recently been undertaking various consultancy work.

In a voluntary capacity Alun currently is Trustee & Treasurer at Awel Aman Tawe (AAT), which is a community renewable energy charity, Director of Awel y Gwrhyd, a limited company owned by Awel Co-op and a Trustee at Tenovus Cancer Care.

A Welsh speaking North Walian from Llandudno, Alun studied at Cardiff University, then worked and lived in Cardiff for a number of years before moving to Bridgend 27 years ago.
