Deadline extended: Help shape the future of healthcare education in Wales

Published 11 November 2025

You now have until 15 December 2025 to share your views!

Health Education and Improvement Wales (HEIW) is inviting learners, educators, employers, and everyone with a stake in the future of the NHS to help shape the very first NHS Wales Education Strategy.

The future of healthcare in Wales depends on the people who deliver it and the education that prepares and supports them throughout their careers. This is your opportunity to influence how we educate and train the NHS workforce for years to come.

An extended opportunity to contribute

With the call for evidence now open until 15 December 2025, there’s still time to share your experiences, ideas, challenges and innovations.

We’re looking for contributions from individuals and organisations across Wales and beyond to help us develop a dynamic, future-proof education strategy that ensures high-quality learning and care.

Why take part?

Education is at the heart of high-quality care. It shapes how we respond to digital transformation, evolving models of care, and changing patient needs and it builds the confidence, wellbeing and expertise of the entire NHS workforce.

By taking part, you’ll help to:

  • Equip NHS Wales with the right skills for tomorrow’s challenges
  • Improve access and inclusion for future healthcare learners
  • Support the educators who train and inspire our workforce
  • Drive innovation through digital technology and AI
  • Deliver better care, outcomes and experiences for patients across Wales

What we’re looking for

We’re seeking evidence and insights across five key areas:

  1. Educational quality – How can we deliver the highest quality education that prepares learners, promotes engagement, and reduces attrition?
  2. Curriculum and pedagogy – What should we teach, and how should we teach it?
  3. Inclusion and equity – How can we break down barriers to healthcare careers and ensure opportunities are available to all?
  4. Technology in education – How can digital tools and AI enhance learning and development?
  5. Supporting educators – How can we empower and support the people who train our workforce?

“This is our moment to reimagine what healthcare education in Wales can and should be. We’re asking everyone who cares about the future of the NHS — from students and educators to employers, professionals and the public — to share their ideas and experiences. Together, we can shape an education system that inspires, includes, and equips the workforce of tomorrow.” commented Ian Mathieson, Director of Education Strategy & Transformation, HEIW
