Staff Associate Specialist and Specialty Doctor (SAS) Tutor – CAVUHB

On 1 October 2018 a new statutory body within NHS Wales came into being, working across the health and education sectors. Health Education and Improvement Wales (HEIW) oversees the strategic development of the health workforce in Wales, including workforce planning, leadership development and education commissioning. It sits alongside existing Health Boards and Trusts to be the eleventh member of the NHS Wales family.

We are looking to appoint an ambitious and enthusiastic individual who will be responsible for providing leadership for, and to facilitate the education, training and career progression of all career grade doctors and dentists within the Health Board. Additionally, part of the role will include the development and implementation of a professional educational strategy and to provide advice on matters relating to SAS doctors and dentists to key stakeholders.

The successful candidate will join a small network of SAS Tutors who are in post across Wales and receive a full induction to appraise them of the progress to date and plans for future development.

Eligibility

The post is suitable for candidates holding a substantive Specialty Doctor/Staff Grade/Associate Specialist or Dentist role within the Health Board with a good working knowledge of the Health Board’s management structures and HR systems. The candidate will also need to possess excellent leadership and teaching skills along with a commitment to postgraduate education and continuing professional development. However, more importantly, we are looking for enthusiasm and a willingness to develop the skills and expertise to undertake this role effectively. The post holder will be expected to undertake this role in addition to current clinical commitments and SPA and will need to the permission of their Clinical Director before applying. The remuneration for the role will be via an additional session on the Specialty Doctor and Associate Specialist Pay Scale.
