Make certain that all parts of the contract are agreed and completed. Any alterations, which should be minor, must be initialled by both parties and submitted to the Postgraduate Dental Dean for approval.
If you agree to accept a job, you are bound by the legal and ethical frameworks that exist in any recruitment procedure. Do not accept a position until you are certain.
A training Agreement will be signed between the Educational Supervisor and HEIW as well as the training Agreement between the Foundation Therapist and HEIW. Until these are completed, no finance will be transferred to the training practice.
You will be on a fixed salary. This will allow you to manage patients free from financial pressures. This is in contrast to a fee per item arrangement where payment is based on the amount of work done. You will also have the benefit of assured income from the end of the first month in practice. You will be employed on a formal contract.
Your Educational Supervisor will arrange payment for you as your employer. The salary will be Band 6 of the Agenda for Change Pay Scale. Your payments will be monthly in arrears. You will receive itemised payslips.
The Educational Supervisor is responsible for the employer’s national insurance contributions and for deducting the Therapist’s national insurance and PAYE tax.
All practitioners must indemnify themselves against professional risks with a recognised Defence Organisation.
The Educational Supervisor must offer proper educational support including allowing the Foundation Therapist to attend the 10-12 study days and to complete the relevant areas of the training portfolio. The Educational Supervisor must not insist on the Foundation Therapist working in the practice at this time. The study days must be included as part of the working week.
The Foundation Therapist must follow the Educational Supervisor’s reasonable instructions. This is central to a professional relationship between an Educational Supervisor and a Foundation Therapist.
All practices will be required to ensure that at least 50% of the dental therapist’s clinical time is spent carrying out restorative treatment and no more than one hour a day will be given to private patients.
If any private work is undertaken, the fees will accrue to the Educational Supervisor. The patient should be given a clear explanation of the nature of the contract under which they are being treated.
Annual Leave entitlement for a full-time contract is 20 working days – at the pro rata rate you are entitled to 8 working days (equivalent to 4 weeks on a full-time contract). Bank Holidays for a full-time contract is 8 days and should be awarded on a pro-rata basis or according to the practice policies (please check this with your practice at the start of the programme).
There is an entitlement to four weeks sick/maternity leave PRO RATA which can be extended with approval of your Educational Supervisor and the Training Programme Director, otherwise employment ceases immediately.
Leave must not, under any circumstances, be taken during study days.

If you are ill, please telephone your practice straight away and advise the WDTFT Admin Officer on 01443 824274, or email at Katherine.liddington@wales.nhs.uk. This can be the only reason for not attending. Please organise holidays, interviews and personal arrangements outside these times.
Please note, any absence from a study day will be notified to your Educational Supervisor.
The start time for each day is indicated in the Timetable. It is worth remembering that this is the time at which the first session will begin and that you will be expected to be present before the start time.
