Getting Started

This guide will have been sent to you after you have accepted a training place on the WDTFT Programme.

Prior to commencing in the practice, you should have:

  • Discussed and agreed your hours of work with your Educational Supervisor
  • Agreed a start date
  • Satisfied yourself and your Educational Supervisor that you can:

Complete the attendance at the practice and study day courses detailed in your Contract

Comply with other terms of the Contract

  • Signed and received a copy of your Contract

You and your Educational Supervisor will have informed the Dental Postgraduate Department of your appointment.

By the time your Contract commences you should:

  • Have registered with the General Dental Council.  There is sometimes a delay with this so ensure you apply as early as possible – a therapist cannot commence on the Programme until registered
  • Be a member of a recognised professional indemnity society

By the end of your first week in practice you should have:

  • Been issued with access to a Professional Development Portfolio
  • Completed the Educational Supervisor’s and personal details pages
  • Had an initial discussion with your Educational Supervisor and completed your starting clinical experience checklist and produced an action plan
  • Received a copy of the study day Timetable
  • Been introduced into the workings of the practice – this varies between practices but forms a major part of your first few days in the practice
