The environment plays a significant role in contributing to health inequalities. The Sustainability Matrix is aimed at reducing emissions which can lead to health benefits. The Sustainability Matrix provides direction to the dental team on what changes will support a more sustainable practice. The Matrix is aligned with the Well-being of Future Generations (Wales) Act 2025, which will help the Welsh Government meeting a collective net zero public sector by 2030.
The Sustainability Matrix is a Self-Evaluation Tool that allows dental teams to focus on improving sustainability in practice. The Matrix enables the team to think about sustainability in 7 domains. These are laid out on a grid and cover the following topics:
Every dimension has several levels and is designed on what the practice can achieve within their own financial constraints & practice environment.
It is used during a facilitated session with your Quality Improvement Dental Educator. Preparing for and using the sustainability Matrix qualifies every GDC registered participant for three hours verifiable CPD.
